Daphne Escapes Apollo began with a beautifully crooked dead tree near the Yahara River and ended as the first painting of my Mythic Collection, a nymph’s transformation into a tree to avoid a god’s advances.

Statement

Discovering Daphne is a self portrait that captures the origin story of my painting Daphne Escapes Apollo. Like most of my abstract work, it began without a fixed destination - just a quiet moment with a beautifully crooked tree near the Yahara River.The collaborative way I work with watercolor has shaped how I approach all mediums. Just as I follow the pigment’s lead, I layer and manipulate photographs until a new narrative emerges. This collage is both reflection and process - a space where intuition meets myth, and the story takes root.
